The Property

HISTORIC FARMHOUSE

In Maine, it was a tradition on farms to build a structure that connected the farmhouse to the barn so farmers would have easy access during the cold Maine winters. This structure is known as an “ell”. At our farmhouse, circa 1800, the barn was removed decades ago but the ell remains.

As many years passed, the expansive farm on top of the hiss was divided into parcels. Two acres of land were kept to accompany what is one of Belfast’s earliest surviving farmhouses.

A few years ago the ell of this historic property was converted into a bright and comfortable guest suite. It offers the conveniences of modern living yet is unpretentious, cozy and inviting.
